Learn about Lupus - sleep

Hello lupus world.....

My name is Quiondra Booker and I've been diagnosed with SLE Lupus for 10yrs (and a few other autoimmune disorders). I do not claim to know it all, but I have experienced quite a bit. In this blog I will delve into Lupus as well as other autoimmune disorders/diseases, help the non autoimmune understand what it is we go through so they can assist friends/family sufferers.

I have gone through several stages with this disease from denial to now the stage of being ready to share my journey. In doing so through Facebook I have gotten lots of interest for more information, personal advice, etc. I prayed on it and got the revelation to begin a blog with the guidance of God I'm moving forward!

So here I am!

I encourage you to comment, ask questions, post suggestions. This is our blog!

I have an idea to invite others to share on their autoimmune disease/disorder as well!

Lupus Fact #1 (what perfect timing)

We can't sleep at night!

Why?

"Survey studies find that about 50 to 60% of individuals with lupus report poor sleep.  This rate is consistent with general studies of other chronically painful conditions.  Poor sleep in SLE has been associated with fatigue, objective measure of disease activity, depressed mood, and joint pain."

To name a few. This is a major problem and I am no stranger to insomnia.....for me it started as a result of being in pain...then as a result of taking steroids....now it is just a bad formed habit that I can't seem to shake. I do sleep some nights , but my body and mind have become accustomed to being up at night and this is when I do my best work lol. Oddly I've always been a bit of a night owl cranking out high school/college papers at the wee hours of the night after housework is done and children are sleeping.

Don't want this to be to drawn out so I'll end it here for tonight.

Thank you for tuning in leave me comments or feedback! Until next time!
